## anonymous 5 years ago find the value of x.Round to the nearest tenth.

1. anonymous

x is the height the hypotenuse side is 14 and the angle is 33degrees

2. anonymous

Depending on whether the x is adjacent or opposite of the angle, use either sin or cos. You can set it up something like this: $\sin 33 = \frac{x}{14}$ And solve for x. Make sure that you use sin or cos, whichever one is appropriate, though.

4. anonymous

so how do i write that on the ti 30x calculator

5. anonymous

x is oposite to 33degrees and hypothenuse is 14

So which is appropriate, sin or cos? Which ratio involves both the opposite and the adjacent?

7. anonymous

so i need sine

8. anonymous

sin

Right.

So how do you solve the above equation for x?

11. anonymous

i guess i press sin then put 33 divided by 14

12. anonymous

do i press sin then (33 / 14)

13. anonymous

or 33sin(14)

Not divided by 14.

Multiply. But yes, sin then 33 then times 14 would do it, and 14 then times then sin 33 should also work.

16. anonymous

i got 7.98

Hm. Should be 13.998 or so.

18. anonymous

i get .9 or 7.6 or .007 can u show me a formula on how u did it

14 * sin(33). It's the only solution to the equation above.

20. anonymous

i got the same thing 7.62494649

Simpler calculators may require you to do: 33 <sin button> <x button> 14 <=>

22. anonymous

i got the texas instrument TI-30XTIS

23. anonymous

i just got 7.983422555

And I have no idea how it works :) I'm just guessing.

25. anonymous

so u dont know how to do it?

27. anonymous

it cant be 13.998

28. anonymous

since hypotenuse is 14

I'm an idiot, I'm sorry.

30. anonymous

shadow can u put the sine cosine tangent formulas again see if im right

7.6 was correct. I've been using degrees where things expected radians.

32. anonymous

ur not an idiot mistakes are always made that is what makes us humans

33. anonymous

is it 33 sin(14) or 14 sin (33)

It's 14 sin(33)

35. anonymous

in a cosine let say its the same numbers how u find the end result
