I'm assuming you want to simplify? ((1/x^2 + 2x + 1) - (1/x^2 - 2x + 1)) / (x-1)(x+1) Reduce by subtracting the second quantity of the numerator from the first quantity of the numerator to: 4x/(x+1)(x-1) or by multiplying out: 4x/(x^2 -1)

yes simplify. where does the 4x come from?

the 1/x^2 in the first term cancels the 1/x^2 in the second term. the 1 in the first term cancels the 1 in the second term. 2x - (-2x) = 2x + 2x = 4x
