    10x+3y=8 and 2x+y=2 take 2x+y=2 to be y =2-2x then insert y =2-2x into 10x+3y=8 10x+3(2-2x)=8 10x+6-6x=8 4x+6=8 4x=8-6 4x=2 x=2/4 x=1/2 then insert x=1/2 into y =2-2x y=2-2(1/2) y=2-1 y=1
