Jim and jack are running a marathon which is 36 miles.Jim runs12 miles per hour and jack runs 9 miles per hour.How long will it take jim to finish the race to the nearest minute?

    distance = rate * time 36 miles = 12 mph * time (divide by 12 mph)

    time = 36 miles / (12 mph) 36/12 = 3 hours (the miles cancel) convert hours to minutes 3*60 = 180 minutes
