to get everything away from the w The first step is to subtract 5.4 from both sides.

When you subtract 5.4 from both sides you should get: 2(w-6.2)=7.7

You start with: 2(w-6.2)+5.4=13.1 You subtract 5.4 from both sides and end up with: 2(w-6.2)=7.7 You divide both sides by 2 and get: w-6.2=3.85 You add 6.2 to both sides to get your final answer of: w=10.05

I did it backwards because if you start with whatever the value for w is you would first do what's in the parentheses, then multiply then add

so in order to get w, you have to do it backwards.
