isolate it by getting everything off the side with y. So first, subtract 3x
anonymous
  • anonymous
then divide by 2
anonymous
  • anonymous
You have to do that to both sides and you'll get y=something

my studen got y=8-3x over 2..what does she do with that?

You don't have to keep saying your student. Clearly you need help with this too. But anyway, what's the coefficient on the x?

I am an aide at the school and I do not know how to do the math. I want to help her. Thanks

a 3

She says she has to graph it, can yo show that?
anonymous
  • anonymous
oops meant you, not yo

Why are you an aide if you don't know how to help the students? The coefficient is not actually a 3, because if you divide everything by 2, you actually get: y=4-3x/2 so the coefficient is 3/2 not 3

The best way to graph it is by choosing a value for x, and solving to see what y is and plotting a point there. This graph is a line, so if you choose x=1,2,3,4,5,etc. it should come out to be a straight line.
