## anonymous 5 years ago (x-3)(x-2)=24

1. anonymous

$x^2-5x+6=24$ $=x^2-5x-18=0$ $D=(-5)^2-4(1)(-18)=25+72=97$ $So x=(5+\sqrt{97})/2 or x=(5-\sqrt{97})/2$

2. anonymous

is there an easyer way to slove it

3. anonymous

The easiest way is to use the scientific calculator to solve it.

4. anonymous

i ment to put (x-3)(x+2)

5. anonymous

No, that's not the way. You have to give that function to the form ax^2 + bx + c = 0

6. anonymous

then use your scientific calculator to solve it

7. anonymous

(x-3)(x+2)

8. anonymous

(x-3)(x+2) = 24 <=> x^2 - 5x - 18 = 0

9. anonymous

so the eqn becomes x^2-x-30=0 so, (x-6)(x+5)=0 =x = -5 or x=6
