Can anyone help me with this equation. I've arrived at two different answers and not sure which is correct 5(x +2) = 1-3x

    x=-9/8 is the only answer -- if there is another answer it is extraneous and not true. Try plugging your answers back in to your original equation and see what you get for an answer, the two sides should be equal, if they aren't then the answer is wrong/extraneous
