    5 = m(1) + b 17 = m(5) + b that doesnt help..... much :) given 2 points, we can make a line, and the points given are (1,5) and (5,17)

    m = y1-y2 / x1-x2 m= 5-17 / 1-5 m = -12/-4 = 3 y = 3x+b

    5 = 3(1) + b 5 = 3 + b obviously b = 2 so our linear eqauation would be: y = 3x + 2; lets see if g(-3) fits?

    y = 3(-3) + 2 y=-9 + 2 y = -7 g(-3) = -7 using out line equation

    If they want a different equation; like for a curve, theyll have to give you more than 2 points to begin with... so thats the best I can do.
