if you are doing an exponential equation, what does a letter with no number like d represent, does it represent 0 or one?

    I MEAN WOULD THE LETTER THAT DOES NOT HAVE AN EXPONENT BY IT EQUAL ONE OR WOULD THAT BE ZERO
