    just do the apples with apples and oranges with oranges I.E: 9x^6+8x^6=17x^6

    notice since these two have the same exponents, you can subtract them.

    when you are dealing with addition or subtraction you keep the number of exponents.

    remember to look at the exponent, if the terms have the same number of exponents than you can do the operation.

    this only applies when you are adding or subtracting.
