- anonymous

It is called the FOIL method.
First, Outside, Inside, Last.
Multiply What would be 4x and 4x
then 4x and -7 and 4x and -7 and combine them
then multiply - 7 and -7.
You get a trinomial. Any questions?

- anonymous

awesome, thank you so much can i ask you one more question?

- anonymous

yes

- anonymous

(x^2=2x-35)/(x=7)

- anonymous

is that a fraction or division?

- anonymous

division, sorry.

- anonymous

i am not too sure exactly what you are asking sorrry

- anonymous

i just dont understand what i have to do to get the answer im confused

- anonymous

you need to find x^2?

- anonymous

no i just have to perform the division
(x^2+2x-35)\[\div\]

- anonymous

(x+7)

- anonymous

there is a change in the problem....you originally had equal signs.....
I am confused sorry.

- anonymous

ohh im sorry on my mac the equal and plus sign is the same button the last way i wrote it is correct im so sorry

- anonymous

to get it straight sorry.....
(x^2+2x-35)÷ (x+7)

- anonymous

exactly

- anonymous

ok give me a minute

- anonymous

k

- anonymous

working it out

- anonymous

ok u still here? U are going to have to reverse foil

- anonymous

im here

- anonymous

huh?

- anonymous

first step is (x+7)(x-5) Divided by (x+7)
you get the two parenthesses if you FOIL those like before ypou get the original problem

- anonymous

im confused

- anonymous

okay remember how i showed you FOIL?

- anonymous

yes

- anonymous

im still getting confused when i try to divide it out

- anonymous

i see okay. You are in what grade if i may ask?

- anonymous

im in college, but this is the class before my college algebra class. i tested into it, im in honors everything else and beginners math hahahaha

- anonymous

ha being in Advanced Algebra 1 in 8th grade we learned this this year sorry having some small trouble. Going to figure it out though.

- anonymous

thank you so much, im trying my best and it is just frustrating im a college sophmore doing freshman in hs work

- anonymous

yeah i understand. Not from a personal perspective but you know.

- anonymous

how do i solve it?

- anonymous

ok going to go backwards it took me a while but i have figured out an example to show you .
Divide x^2+2x-3 by x-1
it is similar

- anonymous

x-1 (inside division box is the next trinomial) x^2+2x-3
Okay?

- anonymous

okay

- anonymous

Ok so you will divide it out like a normal "long division problem"

- anonymous

ohh okayy, that makes it a tad clearer

- anonymous

okay
Think: x^2 Divided by x=?
Multiply x and x-1
Subtract x^2-x from x^2+2x
Okay?

- anonymous

okay hold on im doing it ill send you my answer hold on

- anonymous

okay

- anonymous

i tried to work it out and typed it in my math way and it says there is no answer, did you get an answer?

- anonymous

the answer to the whole problem is x+3

- anonymous

how did you get that? im confused

- anonymous

Well i gave u step 1. U should get
x
x-1(Box)x^2+2x-3
x^2-3
3x

- anonymous

what is box?

- anonymous

sorry CPU is slow. A division box like for long division

- anonymous

..............

- anonymous

sorry if i could not help. Good bye
