## anonymous 5 years ago Find the values of x and y when the similar rectangle show here has the area given. area of smaller rectangle: 20ft squared. Sides of larger rectangle 8ft and 20ft

1. anonymous

Alright, draw both rectangles next to each other and write down the given for both ^_^: We have the following given for the big rectangle which is: L = 20 ft W = 20 ft and the general formula for the area of a rectangle is : $A = lw = (20)(8) = 160 ft^2$ is it clear now? ^_^

2. anonymous

do you want x and y = sides of the smaler rectangle?

3. anonymous

yes

4. anonymous

smaller*

5. anonymous

yes

6. anonymous

Starica my life saver yes i want the sides of the smaller rectangle

7. anonymous

Hmm, okay, I think I have found a relationship between the 2 rectangles, I hope this helps. A1 = xy A2 = Lw Since both rectangles are similar then they are proportional , so yu'll have the following relationship: $A2/A1 = lw/xy = 160/20 = 8$ so : A2 = 8(A1) does this help? :)

8. anonymous

I dont get what your saying. I have to fine what x and y equals. it has to do witch similar figures

9. anonymous

lol, I have showed you the relationship between both rectangles. I'm not sure how to solve it, but I have given you a relationship, can you figure that out from here?

10. anonymous

To find the sides, you have to know the proportionality of the sides and areas

11. anonymous

here what my problems looks like

12. anonymous

Like I have said, since they are similiar then the sides are proportional so you'll have :$x/y = 8/20$ cross multiply and solve for x or y, I'll solve for x first and you'll get : 8x = 20y x = (20/8 )y x = (5/2)y plug this x in the area of the smaller rectangle: A1 = xy 20 =[ (5/2)y ] y $20 = (5/2)y^2$ $y = \sqrt{40/5}=\sqrt{8}= 2\sqrt{2} ft$ now plug this y in the equation we have found which is : $x = (8/20) y =(8/20)(2\sqrt{2}) = (4\sqrt{2})/5 ft$ Correct me if I'm wrong please ^_^

13. anonymous

I guess I'm wrong since it's not equal to 20 ft^2 :(

14. anonymous

yes gosh i hate geometry

15. anonymous

lol, don't say that, give it a one more try, I'll try again :)

16. anonymous

if you cant im just not going to do it i get a50 or something

17. anonymous

angoo can you help out a bit please? :)

18. anonymous

Lol, I didn't say I can't, I still didn't stop thinkin, I'm going to give it a one more try

19. anonymous

okay, thank you

20. anonymous

np :)

21. anonymous

hmm... both rectangles are supposed to be simmilar, right? so the ratio of their width to lenght is the same

22. anonymous

yes

23. anonymous

ok, so the first rectangle is 20ftsq = x * z the second is 160ftsq = 8 * 20 so...

24. anonymous

160/20 = x/8 * z/20

25. anonymous

so what does x and y equal of the smaller square

26. anonymous

How is geometry going to help me in my life anyways

27. anonymous

so, we have to find the ratio first, which is, 160/20=8

28. anonymous

life is geometry martin, everything around us is made up of geometric measurements ^_^

29. anonymous

which means that x of the smaller triangle is 8 times smaller than x of the big triangle, and same goes for z

30. anonymous

so..

31. anonymous

x = 8/8 = 1ft z = 20/8 = 2.5ft

32. anonymous

am i wrong mimi?

33. anonymous

hmm, still not equal to 20 ft^2 angoo, but you were close though!

34. anonymous

excellent :)

35. anonymous

WHAT???

36. anonymous

im confused

37. anonymous

You got the ratio idea right

38. anonymous

oh, i see now :D

39. anonymous

martin the area of the smaller rectangle is : A = xy and the area is given which is = 20 ft^2 so (x)(y) must be equal = 20.

40. anonymous

yes i know

41. anonymous

And you must know the ratio between both rectangles since both are similar :) which is 8 just like andy has said. Did you get that part?

42. anonymous

so x = 4 and y = 5

43. anonymous

exactly! :)

44. anonymous

since: A2 = 8 A1 then A1 = A2/8 just like what you have done! excellent ^_^

45. anonymous

i am SOOOOO bad at maths :( *crying out loud desperatelly and emmotionally*

46. anonymous

LOL! angoo, you were close ^_^, but martin that doesn't give 20 ft^2 either. X is correct, but what about y?

47. anonymous

LOL :D, just kidding, but my exams to university are approaching, in ONE week

48. anonymous

well thank you guys i really appreciate what you guys have really helped me. I hate high school math and my teacher who cant even teach

49. anonymous

work hard and good luck!

50. anonymous

np :), but did you get the idea martin?

51. anonymous

yes. I hope i get it right its really late and i have a to study for world history and do this homework

52. anonymous

the problem is, I have no idea what to study... there are hundreds of topics :( well, not a big deal anyway, if I fail, I will just join the military...

53. anonymous

study the history then wake up early in the morning when your brain is fresh and you'll figure what (y) is ^_^

54. anonymous

on i cant im not a morning person

55. anonymous

don't say that andy, you must have high hopes and ambitions.

56. anonymous

i have to wake up in 3 hours

57. anonymous

damn it, I would really love to have your optimism

58. anonymous

well you've got to, it has been proven scientifically that the brain mostly absorbs between 4 am - 7 am :) try to wake up during these times :)

59. anonymous

you're a great computer -user, you can do anything!

60. anonymous

just have faith in yourself :)

61. anonymous

62. anonymous

highschool math must of been a breeze for you guys

63. anonymous

well, I could start OpenStudy2, or even FaceBook 2 for that matter :D

64. anonymous

well, I got an A in my final maths exam in high, but forgot half of everything now, just half a year after finishing

65. anonymous

you have no idea martin, I wasn't even that good in math during high school, but I worked hard in my last 2 senior years and have aced the subject ^_^ . I didn't do good because I didn't get it, but when you fully start to understand mathematics, every mathematical problem will seem simple and clear to you :)

66. anonymous

well i hope college isnt this bad, i hope the teachers actually teach

67. anonymous

Don't say that andy, it's there sometwhere in your head but you've got to refresh you mind that's all ^_^, nothing can be forgotton, everything is stored up in the unconscious :)

68. anonymous

they do martin, but try not to outsmart them, they don't like it :)

69. anonymous

well good, cause my teacher cant teach to save her life she ignores our questions

70. anonymous

especially you andy, with your great computer skills, they'll consider you as a threat, just do your work and keep quite ^_^

71. anonymous

I don't trust a WORD that business subject teachers are teaching me

72. anonymous

lol, in school, you can control the teacher :) but in college you can't

73. anonymous

I want to major in some type of computer thing

74. anonymous

AWESOME! :) what are you most into to?

75. anonymous

into*

76. anonymous

because, if they are so good in business, how come they are still teaching and not living in a private island?

77. anonymous

I love ....... :)

78. anonymous

lol, that's the first step in getting a job andy

79. anonymous

im really good at computers like i like to learn about technology and things of that nature

80. anonymous

you love? what? programming ! we know lol

81. anonymous

not exactly.....

82. anonymous

computers and stuff?

83. anonymous

I love something that most people dont understand and think that it is bad and stupid...

84. anonymous

you will martin, set that as your goal and you'll reach it and you'll never fall on your knees in times of hardships, you'll fall standing because you have a dream :)!

85. anonymous

what is it andy? :)

86. anonymous

Be yourself because you were born this way

87. anonymous

I am afraid you will condemn me if I tell you

88. anonymous

exactly :)

89. anonymous

haha (gaga)

90. anonymous

oh come on, you know me, what is it? ^_^

91. anonymous

who cares we are who we are

92. anonymous

I never judge ppl , I accept them as they are :)

93. anonymous

yes

94. anonymous

^_^

95. anonymous

ok, well one of my passions is Hacking

96. anonymous

I dont like highschool because people pick on you for the dumbest things

97. anonymous

that's great :)

98. anonymous

its so materialistic

99. anonymous

you can help out with security if a hacker hacks, or you can hack a system down if they want to ^_^, hacking is not bad if you don't mis-use it :)

100. anonymous

101. anonymous

that is what I tell everyone

102. anonymous

I dont use it for evil materialistic gains, I dont steal ppls money and info

103. anonymous

I just break into some company for the thrill of it, it is like an ultimate puzzle, to outsmart a security system, but once I get in, i NEVER steal info or do any harm

104. anonymous

how were you guys highschool experience

105. anonymous

few times I even took my time to write them anonymous letters and explain how they can fix up the security holes

106. anonymous

hacking is not bad, they way you use it defines if it is being used properly or not, and you care about what ppl think? Listen, it's none of our business to know what ppl think of us, let them make their own judgements, it's their words and not ours, we are us and they are not in us, so they don't know who we are, but we do, that's why wenever get affected by the cruel words that surrounds us. When we're not affected we become successful and valuable to all beings. That's what makes us all special ^_^

107. anonymous

the*

108. anonymous

you have good intentions andy, remember that :)

109. anonymous

and show ppl that you do ^_^

110. anonymous

how were you guys highschool experience

111. anonymous

my high school experiance was ok, just boring, I use to hate IT lessons

112. anonymous

honestly, I had my dark years then bright years :)

113. anonymous

114. anonymous

ughh i hate im a loner but i know in the future im going to be somebody

115. anonymous

I used to dislike math and physics, but they are my passion right now . I refused to use the methods they used for teaching, same goes with chemistry.

116. anonymous

don't say that word "hate" it's too powerful >_< , you'll be somebody, and you'll see martin :)

117. anonymous

yes i know, people in my school thinks it cool to smoke and drink. HOw is taking your life away slowly cool?

118. anonymous

has any of you read the Hacker Manifesto written by The Mentor? he wrote about his feeling in highshcool, as a hacker.

119. anonymous
120. anonymous

nope, then you do recognize their foolishness and understand it better than them to not think of it as cool martin :)

121. anonymous

nope, but will check it now andy ^_^

122. anonymous

yes i know, I dislike people who pick on other people. Its like leave them alone what are they doing to you. nothing.

123. anonymous

^_^ I wish you the best of luck, both. I'm thinking of switching from IT college to Engineering. It's my passion and when this semester ends, I'll transfer :)

124. anonymous

great

125. anonymous

good luck

126. anonymous

yep, thank you ^_^, but now I'll have to convince both my parents why I love engineering lol

127. anonymous

well thanks for the help, igot to go it late school in 3 hours.

128. anonymous

wait starica what do you do in engineering

129. anonymous

what kind of engineering? Nanoengineering? BioEngineering? Mechanical engineering? any other type of eng?

130. anonymous

They are all as different as ppl

131. anonymous

martin how many years do you have until you graduate high school?

132. anonymous

Chemical Engineering , and you are welcome martin ^_^

133. anonymous

2 years

134. anonymous

WOW, Chem Eng.... damn

135. anonymous

I used to love it

136. anonymous

especially explosiives making

137. anonymous

lol, it's not abt making explosives, it's about creating new sources of energies that'll fight global warming and stop the depletion of the ozone layer and so much more ^_^

138. anonymous

lucky me chemical stores only sell Potassium and Sodium to companies :) because i would have probably blown myself up already trying to make Astrolite

139. anonymous

LOL! don't even think abt it andy . Control yourself =D

140. anonymous

you used to love it? why? what happened?

141. anonymous

well bye going to go study, thanks for helpiing me

142. anonymous

I dont have time for it anymore, got lo love hacking even more....

143. anonymous

ok, good luck martin

144. anonymous

np and good luck martin :)!

145. anonymous

I can't stop thinking about it, I'm all excited when someone opens a discussion abt it :)

146. anonymous

I was forced to choose between something I love and something I need. I chose the thing I need, thought about it for a year, and I'm going back to follow what I love :)

147. anonymous

oh, and if you want to save the planet, sstarica, why dont you study green energy production courses, well you know what I mean,

148. anonymous

yep I do, I've been researching about the whole thing last year's summer :) before entering college.

149. anonymous

isn't it physical/mechanical eng that deals with alternate/clean energy production?

150. anonymous

I did that already, I've read abou all types of energies to have a background about the topic and got clear to what to do :)

151. anonymous

like production of things like solar panels, wind turbines and so on

152. anonymous

nope, it's chemical engineering :)

153. anonymous

:o really??? wow, never knew it.... i just dont see how making an efficient wind turbine links to chemistry

154. anonymous

Chemical Engineers develop and control processes in general. Since remediation and environmental treatment are processes, Chemical Engineers are actively involved. However, Chemical Engineers are also tackling the Environmental issues from a different angle, namely clean technology. That is to develop processes (and alternative products) that would not produce the pollutants from the first place, or at least improve the operation in order to reduce the produced pollutants. Beside that Chemical Engineers work in other operations not related to the environment.

155. anonymous

ok, got it

156. anonymous

that's the answer I got after asking a professor in college ^_^ he ahs helped me alot!

157. anonymous

has*

158. anonymous

oh, have you ever heard of Nikola Tesla?

159. anonymous

hmm? nope, who is she?

160. anonymous

:o He is the scientist because of whom we have wireless comunications, AC electricity, AC generators/motors, and hundreads of other things without which 21st century would not be as we know it (it would look more like 19th century)

161. anonymous

wait, it's a guy LOL

162. anonymous

that guy is a legend

163. anonymous

164. anonymous

from just being a village boy to a legend, how awesome is that?

165. anonymous

he made some stuff in 1940s that scientists are not able to reproduce even now

166. anonymous

it is pretty awesome

167. anonymous

ever heard of Philadelphian experiment? LOL

168. anonymous

lol, no, what is it? :)

169. anonymous

170. anonymous

omg, is it me or am I getting more and more attached to google nowadays? =D

171. anonymous

wikipedia for more info, but in short, in 1943, an experiment that tried to make a ship inwisible

172. anonymous

=D

173. anonymous

LOL! I did check wikipedia

174. anonymous

and, ppl that were in the ship during experiment, all became either insane or died, and some had some pretty bizare stories to tell of what happened there

175. anonymous

you should read it some time it is interesting

176. anonymous

I sure will :)

177. anonymous

I havefavored both the manifesto and this experiment to read later :)

178. anonymous

anyways, does your intelligent soul believe that there is such thing as multiple universes, time travel (LOL LOL LOL), and spiritual reality (another dimention?)

179. anonymous

actually, you've brought up the topic I was thinking about yesterday :) and I have written a theory about it.

180. anonymous

can you send it to me?

181. anonymous

yet I need consultancy in proving my theory :)

182. anonymous

183. anonymous

so, if you send it to me, I can see if I can find some logical problems... :) i used to study LOTS of metaphysics, quantum physics and theories like that... so..

184. anonymous

I've sent it to a couple of professors in college , who work in the math field, but none could answer the question. I'm sending it ot my high school physics + maths teacher this sunday and see what he'll say :)

185. anonymous

seriously!? oh this is GREAT andy! how can I send it to u?

186. anonymous

he is one of the great ppl I've met in my life, a genius of his type :)

187. anonymous

you can either upload the file to DARPA SAT 45 (one of the GPS sattelites I have access to and use as my file server, LOL), or you can send it to my email, which is naitreid@gmail.com

188. anonymous

I'll choose the email, lol :)

189. anonymous

when do you think you could send it?

190. anonymous

now! you've got me excited :)

191. anonymous

:)

192. anonymous

^_^

193. anonymous

did you get it? :)

194. anonymous

yes

195. anonymous

it's more about whether space is finite or infinite

196. anonymous

got it

197. anonymous

so, can I give you a HARSH and uncensored review?? :D

198. anonymous

lol, I'll listen to any judgements :) and take it into consideration

199. anonymous

200. anonymous

do you have it on your PC hd?

201. anonymous

202. anonymous

ok, I think I know what happened

203. anonymous

wait.

204. anonymous

you did not attach a file itself, but only a link to it, but the link is to your personal file which is protected by your live pasword

205. anonymous

oh hold on lol

206. anonymous

done

207. anonymous

ok, got it, :)

208. anonymous

:) nice quick last moment touch before sending :)

209. anonymous

what touch lol?

210. anonymous

never mind... You mention Quaran there, are you muslim?

211. anonymous

I'm kind of slow, did I mention that before? ^^" Yep :)

212. anonymous

ok, another very important question, are you a true muslim, obiding ALL the rules and laws of Quran?

213. anonymous

Lol, if I were not to obide the rules of the Quran and the rules by which the prophet has mentioned, then I'm not a muslim am I? Ofcourse I am.

214. anonymous

well, many call themselfs Muslims, Budhists, Christians, and many other religions/movement's believers, but many of those many, do not fully follow, study, examine, and believe what is written in their scriptures. That is why I asked.

215. anonymous

Now worries :) Those who don't go with the rules of their religions are those who have no religion at all. :)

216. anonymous

no*

217. anonymous

exactly, but religion is a very dangerous and usually wrongly interpreted and understood word

218. anonymous

that's why people have made up different religions, doesn't that get you curious?

219. anonymous

well, I it VERY hard to fully determine which religion is the true one, VERY hard

220. anonymous

I'm not praising my religion, but the Quran is the book that beholds God's words of how he created the universe and Earth in 6 days, how life began in earth, mentioned the diseases and their cures, relationships between a husband and wife , politcal polices, everything. People , scientists and scholars have found answers to mysterious questions now, but the Quran had the answer almost 2000 years ago :) If you read it , you'll understand what I'm talking abt ^_^

221. anonymous

all of your questions, have answers in that book and they make sense. I myself was taken aback :)

222. anonymous

well, I read many scriptures like Quran, Bible and others.... ALL of them have answers to many question in life... that is not enough to prove the religion the right and only one. I think the only way we can 100% know if the religion we follow is correct is by experiancing a supernatural happening.

223. anonymous

I agree ^_^

224. anonymous

There are stories about people who have faced the worse in life, you can read about and also, the prohpet's sayings that existed more than 1,400 years :)

225. anonymous

anyway, I will carefully read your theory, and will send a response to you to the same email, but just to start, the including of religious facts/beliefs should not be mixed with science. Why? Because you believe in it but other scientist do not. Also, because scriptures simply give a statement about something, like "The universe is spherical..." but it does nothing to explain why that statement is correct, even if it is correct.

226. anonymous

does it make any sense?

227. anonymous

That's why I've mentioned the predictions of other scientists :) if you have noticed.

228. anonymous

like perelam who proved hirbel's work?

229. anonymous

hope I have spelled his name correctly ^^"

230. anonymous

or he won't forgive me lol

231. anonymous

Perelman proved the Hilbert's work *

232. anonymous

:), yes I know, but still, i don't see how quran will help your theory to get accepted. You could simply add that piece of info at the very bottom, list it as a text that also predicted/stated that universe is sperical.

233. anonymous

Quran is another proof to support my theory. That's why I have put 3 and not only 1. You can exclude the one that has Quran and move on reading lol :)

234. anonymous

ok, =D, i will move on, (btw there is a great difference between proof and suggestion, Quran, nor any other holy text, can NOT ever prove ANYTHING unless, it is proven to be true itself, which it hasn't, like any other religion, since religion can not be proven physically), ok i am moving on

235. anonymous

lol, okay okay I GOT YOU =D :) silly

236. anonymous

I'll hit the showers now ^_^

237. anonymous

ok, I will checkout the rest of the letter and tell you if I find any other logical problems (just personal opinions of course)

238. anonymous

sure, thank you ^_^
