ok so i am assuming you have the following: $\ln(e^{2x+1}) = 9$ so using the log property you can get the (2x+1) down using the log property: (2x+1)ln(e) = 9 so (2x+1) = 9 hence 2x + 1 = 9 2x = 8 and x = 4
