The major problem I am having is finding beam split patterns... Both in single and double slit applications. Why do we simply find the first diffraction minima and then find the distance to first diffraction maxima and then divide distance to min by distance to max? I am looking for the concept behind all this because I understand that there is a second and a third and fourth diffraction min.. why don't we care about these?
