It's unlikely the core of OpenStudy will be open sourced, but there are a few things like the equation editor that we may open source in the future. Most of the core is very specific to what we do anyway. We've built OpenStudy itself on top of an open source framework, Lift, which you can find at http://liftweb.net/ . It does a lot of the heavy lifting for us. We also use an actor framework from the Akka open source project at http://akka.io/ .
