    okay, 8x - 9y = 8.5 ----------------->equation A 7y - 2x = -4.5 ------------------>equation B equation B can be written as -2x + 7y = -4.5

    now, in order to do elimination of variables, you have to find the least common multiple for coefficients in both equations one of the variables, say x

    multiply eq. 1 by 7 and eq. 2 by 8 and then subtract both of them you will get an eq. in terms of y.........solve it

    the LCM of 8 and 2 is 8, so multiply equation B by 4 to get -8x + 28y = -18

    add the new equation to equation A to get rid of the variable x (or eliminate it) . then you will have the equation in terms of y. Solve that equation. find out the value of y and substitute in one of the equations to get the value of x
