In Gen chem, these are the most common types: double displacement, acid base neutralization, and redox reactions.

Double displacement reaction: the elements in two compounds "switch" during the reaction (i.e. AB +CD -> AD + CB) Acid-Base reactions: an acid (contains hydrogen and is the proton donor) reacts with a base (usually has OH- and is the proton acceptor). Redox-reactions: Electrons are transferred (use oxidation numbers to calculate how many electrons are transferred and from which atoms). Combustion reactions: A substance (molecular compound) that reacts with oxygen and only oxygen. (produces heat)

Two more are synthesis and decomposition. Synthesis: A + B = AB Decomp: AB = A + B
