When solving a rational equation what is the first step we must always take?

    A rational equation can be a lot of things. I don't quite know what you are asking. Here is a very easy to follow example. Hope this is what you are looking for. http://www.purplemath.com/modules/solvrtnl2.htm

    The first example is a rational equation. Just seems like the question is a little vague.

    That is what I thought as well....I think I have answered it now just need to figure out how to get an example together...I am so confused even looking at the site you gave me...I am so not a math person at all...I however am doing pretty good, just make things harder for myself.
