I am writing a sentence and I want to clarify that 'an' is the right article in the example.

    If I write "an unique experience through the..." I'm under the impression that grammatically that is correct. However it sounds odd compared to 'a unique experience through the." Any thoughts or help?

    The choice between 'a' and 'an' is dictated by the first sound in the next word. If it is a vowel sound, 'an' is used. The beginning 'u' in unique is pronounced 'yoo', which is not a vowel sound. Contrasting example: we use 'an' before honorable, because the 'h' is silent.
