there is no "step by step AC method" that has been codified to my nkowledge

Please check your answer by FOIL. It is not equal to the original expression. You first step in using the ac method should be rearranging the terms. The second step is factoring the greatest common factor

yes, rearrange the terms in a "normal" quadratic fashion from highest degree to lowest degree...

I find down a way to do factor , divi all for 4 you have:
2x^2-7x -4
now you can factor:
(2x+1)(x-4)

or you can write like this:
4(4x²-7x-4)
you can divi all by 4 or GCF is 4 ,I hope it help
