\[\sqrt{1-2b}=1+b\] \[\sqrt{1-2b}^2=1+b\] \[1^2-2b^2=1+b\] \[1-4b=1+b\] \[-5b=0\] \[-5b/-5=0/-5\] \[b=0\] Plug that back into the original equation and you will get 0=0 which is true
