There's not really an easy answer for this. Sometimes it just takes you playing around with an idea you like and taking it from there. It also depends what kind of app / java programming you want to do. For instance: -A graphical application? You'll want to get very familiar with java.swing and similar classes. Example application: make an MSPaint type program using mouseobservers and an abstract shape class. -A command line application? get familiar with the Scanner class and you'll have to do a bunch of nasty string parsing. example application: make a text based game. plenty of options, but I'd say the best one would be something you think would be neat. That way when you get done with it, you can keep it and show it off, and also continue to give it features.

Hey, thanks a lot. I think I'll go with Swing, wince I'm learning it right now (Java for Dummies). I am not that interested in command line apps anymore, I made a Prime Numbers Finder, a Binary to Decimal converter class, etc... So I can show that off a lil' bit, right ? Hahaha, thanks a lot anyway

Absolutely! How about getting together to create some fun apps for the Android Marketplace? Mostly educational apps.

Yo man, thanks for the proposition, I appreciate that. But I'm still at the "learning" level. Still unfamiliar with Swing and some other aspects of programming. So I can't really help :)
