## anonymous 5 years ago hi i need help with this equation problem 8u5v -1

1. amistre64

need help solving ot typing?

2. anonymous

no ineed a math problem help

3. amistre64

can you retype the question then; this makes no sense to me..

4. amistre64

8u5v -1 ?

5. anonymous

8u5v-1

6. amistre64

as is; this is just an expression... there is nothing to solve. What is it you need to do with it?

7. anonymous

i need to simplify only positive exponents

8. amistre64

$8u5v^{-1}$ is this your problem then?

9. anonymous

yes but the 5 is smaller

10. amistre64

$8u^{5v^{-1}}$ like this then?

11. anonymous

the v is big

12. amistre64

$8u^5 v^{-1}$

13. anonymous

yes

14. amistre64

lol... when you wanna type this on the keyboard so others can actually read it; do it like this: 8u^5 v^-1

15. amistre64

the answer tho is this: $\frac{8u^5}{v}$

16. anonymous

k thank you

17. amistre64

a negative exponent mean you flip it :)

18. anonymous

canyou explain?

19. amistre64

i can try: take for example... (2/5)^-4 since the exponent is negative we flip the fraction like this: (5/2)^4 and another example: 7^-2 we flip it over like this (1/7)^2

20. amistre64

a negative exponent tells us that it is the reciprocal or inverse of the number its attached to
