Find the standard form of the equation of the ellipse with the given characteristics. center: (1, 4) a = 2c foci: (- 3, 4), (5, 4)

    its major axis is the x axis.... i hate to assume that a and c are standard terms when dealing with these; but i usually see a as the length from the center to the outer vertex

    and c as the measure from the center to a focus

    c = 4; so a=8 in that case and b = sqrt(a^2 -c^2)

    b=sqrt(48); so there should be a 48 tucked under the y part; whats your options?

    x^2 y^2 <- modify for off center ---- + ---- = 1 64 48

    That works just gotta put the center in for h and k... I was close based it off of the last one we did just had them flipped
