ok, help! 3/4 - (-1/3) = I am drawing another blank I got -5/12.. am i right? anyone?

    yes. 60 = 10 times 6 = 10 times 3 times 2 1650 = 10 times 165 = 10 times 3 times 55

    YAYA! it just hit me. i got it! thanks to you. I'm almost 30 and havent done this is so long. and im a single momma with 2 kids in the army and never have time to study. this is sooooo much help right now!

    I would help you, but make sure you have really thought about your problem before you post it here. I can give you the answers all day, but it is better if you learn how to apply your math skills to problems, then you wouldnt even need my help. :)

    no it was not tricky. I meant you have to be careful where you put the minus sign. It should apply to the whole of 1 3/4, so we write -(1 3/4) If it applied to just the 1, then it would be -1 3/4

    remember, you have to cube everything in the brackets, that includes the s. You forgot to do that in your initial answer. You cubed 7 to get 343, but you didnt cube the s.

    x^2 is just another variable. suppose you put a = x^2, then 3x^2-15x^2 becomes 3a -15a = -12a. but a = x^2 so 3x^2-15x^2 = -12 x^2

    treat all of them like variable. say x^2 = a, xy = b and y^2 = c. write it in terms of a,b,c and then substitute them back as x^2,xy and y^2
