*Multiple Choice* A rectangular room 14 feet by 12 feet has a semicurcular sitting area attached with a diameter of 12 feet. What is the total area of the room and sitting area? Choice 1. 168 ft squared Choice 2. 224.5 ft squared Choice 3. 281.1 ft squared Choice 4. 620.4 ft squared
I worked out the problem and I got this:
A=14x12=168
A=.5x12xπ=18.8
168+18.8=186.8 squared
What did I do wrong?

Best ResponseYou've already chosen the best response.0For A=14x12=168, I used the the formula for finding the area of a square. For A=.5x12xπ=18.8, I used the formula for finding the area of a semicircle.

Best ResponseYou've already chosen the best response.0You are using the diameter rather than r^2 in calculation of your semicircle.\[A=(\pi r ^{2})=\pi 6^{2}=36 \pi\] that would be for the complete circle now take half that and you would 18 Pi.
