    As per the New American Oxford Dictionary: ``a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence, and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence, such as hear, become, happen.''`

    a verb receives the action of the subject an example would be, Charlie ran away-- the verb is ran and it recieves the action of the subject, Charlie

    A verb is what any of are re doing now: reading, typing, thinking, writing. Verbs are the Action Words in any sentence/piece of writing.
