Can the synthetic formula simply give you the roots of a cubic or quadratic without you trying out the roots?

    maybe they want you to say that if you divide by x-r and get zero then you know r is a root.

    yeh i know that but instead of trying out all of the possible roots like that, is there a way to find the roots without doing it that way
