when you multiply with exponents when you have like bases which you do, 3. you add your exponents.... that gives you 3^40

so then I would multiply the 3's to get 9 right so it would be 9^40

x^27*x^13 = \[x^{27+13}\] = \[x^{40} \] The same applies if x = 3 -- you would get \[3 ^{40}\]
