It totally depends on your area of interest...Either Dataabse of Coding...But if you are not specific about it...I would recommend you to go ahead for asp.net..It helps you a lot in job search...But if you want to learn and implement the basics thoroughly..then learn java.. In Database Sql Server is a good one..

Kwel.. It all depends upon your strengths, Computer Science has itz scope until the End of the world..! But still choose the field which you are strong in...! That matters a lot. If you are Good in Coding start learning C.. that will strengths your coding fundamentals.. then If you are sure to go further choose either JAVA or .NET.. both involves in usage of Databases so you may even have to learn DBMS(ORACLE /MYSQL) for that.. so All the best..!

I would recommend you to start with either Python or C depending on the stuff that you will be working on. I would use Python for all high level applications like Web development, GUI Development etc.. since it is more concise when compared to all other languages. C should be used only when you need hardware level access(control), else you would have to mess up with dirty memory leaks and stuffs, which are nicely handled in High level languages like Python or Java

http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html Java is most used programming language that doesn't mean it is best,Java and .NET mostly deployed in corporate world, don't be misguided with that.Programming Languages are tools to deliver solutions to the problems,Learning a programming Language of you taste and liking increases your productivity .If you are looking for language of next generation you should try Python or ruby or any duck typed programming language. You should definitely learn oracle,MySql and lot of database.Nowadays database is very crucial part of application development.Learning Python or Ruby will make you develop app for Mac,unix styled system and for windows too. . . .
