    Genetic drift is the change in frequency of an allele due to random events.

    Genetic drift is the random change in the frequency of alleles within a population's gene pool. It can cause the genetic composition of a population to change in one direction or another. Combined with natural selection, genetic drift is a principal force in biological evolution.

    Influenza virus is an example....in which drift and shift produces newer strains which cause newer types of pneumonia.
