DNA is double stranded, RNA is made when DNA is being replicated by 'unzipping' it with DNA helicase so it single stranded. Also, in RNA, the nitrogenous base thymine is replaced with uracil.
DNA can be single stranded, as found in some viruses. The basic difference between DNA and RNA is the sugar base found inside their molecule, it is deoxyribose in DNA while it is ribose in RNA. Also it is necessary to understand that DNA is a template of genetic information, where RNA particularly mRNA is the vehicle which carries that information to the sites inside the cell where it is needed Viz, sites of protein synthesis.

DNA[deoxyribonucleic acid] contains the 4sugar bases, gunine, adenine, cytosine&thamine and it carries genetic materials whereas RNA[ribonucleic acid]is responsible for the transmission of the genetic information and is aderivative of atranscriped DNA,in its structure the thamine is replaced by uracil
ok as name suggests rna stands for ribonucleic acid has a ribose sugar, while dna stands for deoxyribonucleic acid has a deoyribose sugar i.e at position 2 carbon oxygen is absent.. dna hav A, T, G, C bases while rna have U instead of T..
