Kasia Kozinska is a PhD student at the Centre for Research in Education and Educational Technology, The Open University, UK, conducting a case study of what motivates and influences learning on OpenStudy and would like to invite you - as a member of one of the MIT study groups - to a remote interview (over Skype or phone) about how and why your learn on OpenStudy and in related contexts. The aim of the research is to estabish how OpenStudy helps users pursue their learning; what enhances it and what impedes it. Ultimately, the aim of the doctoral study ‘Motivations for various ways of learning and teaching with Open Educational Resources (OER) – case studies of different OER initiatives and their role in supporting inclusive lifelong learning’ is to ascertain the role that OER play in supporting inclusive learning throughout life among diverse users, understand what motivates and encourages users to learn both individually in more structured ways as well as socially, in collaborative ways, in relation to online as well as offline contexts. The Open University, UK, is a global leader in research into technology-enhanced learning, with a tradition in Open and Distance Learning and a mission of championing progress and social justice. Kasia’s study has been approved by The Open University Human Participants and Materials Research Ethics Committee. All data will be anonymised and treated confidentially, only used for research purposes, stored securely on a password protected machine, and destroyed upon the project’s evaluation or earlier, if you wish to withdraw from the study. If you agree to take part in a 30-minute interview, simply e-mail Kasia at katarzynak7@hotmail.com or k.a.kozinska@open.ac.uk with a ‘yes Open Study’ in the message title. This is not spam, but rather a request to determine the effectiveness of social learning environments like OpenStudy.
