    yup. There were 4 of them. The conflict that remains today between the Shia and the Sunni dates back to the 4 caliphs, and whether or not the caliph Ali was rightfully guided.

    True. As a side note, the Caliphate represents the time of Islamic globalization and the re-establishment of this defunct theocratic dictatorship is what Al Quaeda are supposedly fighting for.

    True. The Caliphate was taken by Ottoman Empire and it was cancelled by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk when Republic of Turkey was founded.
