See MIT OCW on Essays. Reading and Writing the Essay years 2004 and 2005. Probably generally this Course done by one's self with lots of investment in texts and reading generally ie read to learn how to read, is a good idea anyway. Don't be too caught up on task, just think of yourself as having opinions and a voice that needs expressing. If you were an MTV Executive you would argue that it is indispensable. If you were coming from a more emancipatory Philosophical position then you might argue that Popular Culture denigrates people. Don't think in terms of hard and fast right wrong more in terms of general argumentation and ongoing debate. (Americanisation and American junk culture not good when one needs Ballet, Opera the High arts and Literary Culture). One could attack it as questions of justice and access. How does one get high culture if poor!!?? the internet? are there any things that would oppose it ie big business wants paywalls everywhere and would opppose it on profitability rather than free goods that help lift people up. Also you could argue whether Eminem as example actually is a form of high culture is he as obscure as Mallarme or Guy de Mausappant? How do people get culturised or deculturised? An interesting topic enjoy have fun!

I hour Essay = I hour to make argument. Journalists, Essayists and Academics have deadlines. You no difference!
