    Multiply out: 12 - 3y = 5y + 10 Add 3y to both sides: 12 = 8y + 10 Take 10 from both sides: 2 = 8y Divide both sides by 2: 1 = 4y Divide both sides by 4: 0.25 = y There you go :)

    Distribute 3(4-y) and 5(y + 2) 12 - 3y = 5y + 10 Bring y's to all the same side: 2 = 8y 2/8 = y 1/4 = y
