Hi you can improve programming by starting out with a basic beginners book on specific language you want to learn. If you want to learn C start with K.N Kings "C programming a modern approach", it's a really great book for beginners. These course here are for intermediate to advanced students of Computer Science.

if you want to be an expert in C for for K & R http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_C_Programming_Language_(book) it is written by Ritche the guy who wrote the Language C. I guess we cant ask for more.
