    There is the argument that he didn't really discover the new world -- the Chinese did. You can also argue that his coming to the new world brought disease and disaster for the natives.

    Well, you could argue that it was because of him that Europeans began coming to the "New World." But other than that, he really didn't do anything. Heck, he didn't even discover that the Earth was round, something that's been attributed to him for whatever reason.
