    see here we have common base on both the sides so equate the powers \[2x + 1 = 2 \times (x - 1)\] then solve it for x

    no it will be \[9^{x-1} = 3^{2 \times (x-1)} = 3^{2x-2}\]

    oh so sorry so in that case \[3x + 1 = 2x - 2\]
