    impedance is a type of resistance to current flow and is given by where Xl is inductive reactance and Xc is capacitive reactance

    Impedance is a general term. In electrical engg. impedance is the property of the system(ckt) which is nothing but the measurement of opposition to electrical current when ckt is exposed to an excitation(voltage).
