    Ha, that's a good example ..... you would need to know how to factor quadratics to pass your exams, and you have to agree that's real life......

    also some people think that learning how to work within an artificial system using patterns and rules is a useful "real-life" skill ... there are bosses that figure if you can factor quadratics then they can successfully train you on-the-job for what they actually need
