Can a genetic trait be transmitted from one bacterial strain to another? support your answer with evidence.

    Yes, consider the ways in which bacteria can reproduce. Review conjugation, F plasmids, High frequency of recombination (Hfr) cells, and sex pili. A bacteria can extend a sex pili and donate its DNA across the mating bridge that is formed.

    I'm not sure I understand. Both bacterial cells stay alive after conjugation and neither one dies and is reborn... @_@
