I don't think it necessarily is, but I think historically it always has been.
so u mean it is not always a multiprogramming system.But sometimes it may be ???
I don't know of any that *aren't*, but I don't think there's anything inherent to time sharing that requires a multiprogramming system. But, I may be wrong.

A timesharing system allows multiple users to run arbitrary apps "simultaneously" and therefore keeping track of where each user's app is at all times. Seems to me that this means keeping track of the internal state multiple programs at the same time - or multiprogramming. Unless I'm missing something...
Whoops. Fair point. I was confusing multiprogramming with simultaneous multitasking.
