notice you have -5/8+x right so to make this just x you need to add what to it?

if I gave you -3+x=-5 to solve we want to isolate x but notice we have -3+x to make -3+x just x we need to add 3 to -3+x giving us 3-3+x=x but if we add 3 on one side of the eqaution we have to add 3 to the other side so what i'm saying is to solve -3+x=-5 you have to add 3 on both sides -3+3+x=-5+3 0+x=-2 x=-2

    so -5+x=-3 +5 +5 ----------- x=2 another example -1+x=-2 +1 +1 --------- x=-1 another example -3/8+x=-2/8 +3/8 3/8 -------------- x=1/8
