This is what he email us: Hello! There is nothing like a holiday weekend and medical emergencies to ensure that I start off behind. I apologize for being out of communication the last few days as life has been very hectic. However, I believe that everything is returning to normal. The first homework assignment is scheduled to be due tonight, but I have moved it back to Friday the 20th since I have not been able to get you more information on the homework. Homework has two parts. The outline and the problems. The outline is intended as a way of forcing you to read the book and can be uploaded as either one file for all sections or a seperate file for each section. Please upload only PDF, MS Office, or Open Office files. The second part of the homework is the more important one. The problems assigned are designed to prepare you for the quiz. I would like you to tell me which problems you attempted and what level of effort you had to put into each problem. Basically, just tell me if the problem was easy for you or difficult, for example, 7.1.34 was extremely difficult for me, I needed four attempts to solve the problem and am not confident in my solution. This needs to be in the comment section of the submission. I will post solutions to all assigned problems immediately after the due date in the content section of the course. I hope this clears up the confusion about the homework. Please let me know if there are any questions over how to submit homework.

You'll need to download part 2 of the assignment!

The outline is what confuses me, not the actual problems. I don't see what I'm suppose to hand in for the outline.

"The outline is intended as a way of forcing you to read the book" I suppose the intention is for you to write a detailed summary which will then be uploaded. It would be a good idea to confirm this with your professor in case you were absent from the class. I am sure she would have explained in detail in class.
