    \[(-\infty,-2)U[5,\infty)\] The parenthesis signifies that it this number is not included; however, we can't really define infinity so we use a another parenthesis. We always go from left to right so all of the negative numbers up to -2, but negative 2 is not included. U means union. U also means OR. and thats what we have. the bracket means that 5 is included. Someone drew you a graph...
