How were the thousands of black soldiers in the Union Army used?

    The union leaders were still racist at this time so they didn't believed that the freed slaves could do much in the army so they were only allowed to fight in small and unimportant battles

    i dont gree that they were recist becuse according to the emanciption proclimation any slaves in the south were freed and they cam and helped the union by doing small chored like cooking cleaniing and sometimes even battling. :)
