    \[y = 5x + 10\] is not differential, while \[a = {dv \over dt}\]is.

    The last equation you've posted ... are you solving for p? If so, this is quadratic in p and you can use the quadratic formula. If not, post again in Mathematics and someone will jump on it for you.
