    The question is really saying, WHAT is 90% of 650. Since we don't know what is, we put x in place of what. Now the question is x is 90% of 650. To find this, use the following proportion: is/of = %/100 We replace x along with the given information into the formula x/650 = 90/100 Now cross multiply: 100x = 58500 x = 58500/100 x = 585 So now that we know WHAT is, we say: 585 is 90% of 650.
